Can You Control Dreams? A Spiritual & Biblical Perspective

There are so many things you can’t do in real life—like being as incredibly wealthy as your idol, Elon Musk. But those things can come true in your dreams. If only I could control my dreams, I’d be able to feel what it’s like to be rich. Maybe then I’d understand how to truly be content with life.

I also wonder why this seems so rare to experience and remains a mystery even now. It is because there are also evil spirits dwelling within you. If you were to enter this state, you would surely have to face them—and you could still be defeated if your faith is weak. That is why God intentionally kept it closed.

There are times when a person experiences sleep paralysis—a natural sleep condition where the mind is awake, but the body is not yet able to move. This can cause intense fear and a sensation of heaviness, which is sometimes accompanied by hallucinations that feel incredibly real due to the brain's state of sudden disorientation.

It’s the same thing even if, for example, you can actually control your dreams. You still can’t escape what the Bible says about evil spirits and sometimes even demons that have a greater ability to control you. You might only be able to control your dreams, but they can control your entire being, right?

First, regarding the desire to feel rich in a dream to understand contentment: from a biblical perspective, the illusion of wealth—even in waking life—often fails to bring true peace. King Solomon, who had wealth that would rival modern billionaires, concluded that it was all "vanity and a striving after wind" (Ecclesiastes 2:11). In Christian theology, the Apostle Paul wrote that he learned the secret of being content in any situation, whether well-fed or hungry, living in plenty or in want (Philippians 4:11-12). While a lucid dream of extreme wealth might be a thrilling simulation, spiritual contentment is generally found in a state of the heart, rather than the size of a bank account.
